Research Compliance

With nearly four decades of experience serving within a university environment, Robert brings extensive legal experience with nearly every practice area affecting higher education. He built a distinguished career spanning multiple roles at the University of New Mexico and Yale University.

At Yale, Robert served as Associate General Counsel and Senior Associate General Counsel, overseeing legal services critical to the university's research and technology enterprise. His responsibilities included advising in all areas of research compliance and technology transfer, including compliance in human and animal research, bio-safety, export controls, and research misconduct. He was instrumental in developing and revising research compliance policies, interpreting federal regulations, and managing responses to inquiries and investigations.

Previously, at the University of New Mexico, Robert held the positions of Interim University Counsel and Deputy Associate University Counsel, where he restructured the legal services division and supervised a team providing intellectual property, research, and technology transfer legal services. His career highlights include structuring complex research deals, negotiating tech transfer agreements, and resolving disputes related to university research projects.
